Other Emergencies

Incidents that can occur with little or no warning such as a major power outage, hazardous materials spill, nuclear power plant leak, an explosion or structure fire are emergency situations.

In addition to causing injury, loss of life and/or property damage to individuals, these emergencies may have social, technological or economic consquences to whole communities or larger geographical regions.

We are very dependent on electrical power in our daily lives. If a major loss in electrical power occurs, we need to be prepared to survive for a period of time.

Radiological Incidents

There are six nuclear power plants in New York State which are a source of electrical power. All of these power plants have developed emergency procedures for residents within a 10 mile zone.
